COVENTRY ICE DIVE PHOTOS
FEBRUARY 2002
| This drill took place at the
Coventry Lake Boat Launch on Sunday February 10, 2002. The drill
provide some insight into thin ice dive rescue. The ice was only 3
to 5 inches thick and precautions were taken to ensure the safety of
both divers and support personnel. All support personnel were
tethered to shore and were in full exposure suits. Divers were
escorted out to the hole by the surface support. The ice was pack
ice that had frozen which made for treacherous footing. Once out
there the ice started to crack and water from the hole began to flood
the are. By the end of the dive there was over 5 inches of water
in some spots. The rescue alive sled was used as a staging are out
on the ice for the divers. Two teams of divers performed
circular pattern evolutions. Only one regulator problem was
encountered and the entire dive went off without incident. Here
are a few pictures of the drill. (Please excuse the blurriness of the
photos. New operator) Also thanks to Eagleville for committing
Rescue 107, their Rescue Alive sled to support our Drill. |
