AUGUST DRILL

YEARLY NIGHT DIVE

On Wednesday August 8, 2001 the Tolland County Dive Team Descended on the quite town of Union Connecticut for it's monthly drill.  The dive site, Mashapaug Pond located in Bigelow Hollow State Park is one of the favorites of the dive team.  Visibility is fantastic, usually 10 to 20 feet.  The water is very clean and cold due to the springs that feed this water way.   Surface temps can range from 65 to 75 on the surface during the summer and at 18 to 20 feet the temperature can drop to the mid 50's.   Boats on scene were Marine 108 the large pontoon boat from South Coventry, Marine 115, Marine 145, and Marine 107.  These were used to shuttle divers to Marine 108 were circular patterns were being executed.  The diver experienced some difficulty when the got snagged on some mono-filament fishing line.  11 divers to part in the drill along with many support staff.  RD-319 worked with some support staff and divers with under water communications.  They performed pendulum operation from the shore.  Click on the images below to see a larger version.
