Dive Call - August 10, 2001 Coventry, Connecticut
Eagleville Dam on the Willimantic River

On Friday August 10, 2001 at 2231 PM the South Coventry and Eagleville departments were toned out for a possible search at Eagleville Dam.  Officers responded to the scene to meet with DEP, and State Police officers.  All other members staged in station.  It was determined around midnight that a search of the boat launch are would be necessary.  Apparently a female was in the water and her exit from the water was not witnessed.  C. Ardel, N. Meikle, and M. Dittrich suited up prepared to make a sweep.  N. Meikle was the safety diver, C. Ardel was the strong swimmer and M. Dittrich was signal.  C. Ardel and M. Dittrich dove with full face masks but no communications. An Eagleville support member collected tags and pressures from all the divers.   The divers performed pendulum sweeps from shore starting at approximately 50 feet and worked their way in.  Visibility was 0 to .5 feet with an approximate water temp of 65 degrees.  Depths ranged from 3 to 12 feet.  Four pendulum sweeps were made with nothing found.  Satisfied that the area was clear, DEP and State Police cleared the scene and all units returned.  This was a limited response, but yet another example of the County Dive Team's versatility and commitment to supporting the need of Tolland County.
